Technology and Project Manager

Mike is an experienced technology manager. Trained in science, management and leadership, he has over 15 years experience managing technical projects, people, R&D, marketing, sales, and training. Mike's experience includes software, hardware, construction, and programming. Throughout his career, he has adapted to changing environments and technology to effectively manage people, processes, and resources. The key to Mike's managerial success has been not only to manage, but inspire.

Technical Writer

In addition to managing, Mike is an accomplished technical and business writer. He has designed and implemented enterprise-wide and product-centric documentation roadmaps and strategies, integrating marketing and sales campaigns into comprehensive documentation and media. This includes installation, configuration, fault isolation, programming, and maintenance manuals aligned with engineering, user interface and maintenance concepts. Mike has written over 100 manufacturing, installation, and programming manuals as well as developed numerous marketing and training guides on a wide variety of commercial and technical subjects.

Trainer and Instructor

Mike has over 15 years experience developing training documentation and curriculums, with hands-on training experience. He has developed entire software training curriculums and documentation from scratch and performed hands-on training at many companies in Southern California, including the Los Angeles Times, Hughes Electronics, SCE, and TRW.

Mike has taught technical writing, business writing, organization and planning, presentations skills, and management techniques at the industry, corporate and university levels. In his business writing course, he promotes using less words, shorter sentences, and more graphics, headings, lists, tables and, of course, white space. His macro'd Gunning Fog Index (in Excel) can be used to determine writing grade levels. The target is 10 (Tenth Grade) or below. Mike's Advanced Multitasking class debunks myths associated with tasking and offers a more productive and less damaging way to work.

Public Speaker

Mike has made over 50 public speaking presentations in the last three years alone. Topics include advanced management, advanced multitasking, and advanced writing techniques. He is a regular public speaker at many business associations and conferences throughout Southern California. These include the PMI Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Orange County, and Ventura Chapters, the IIBA Orange County Chapter, the ILCEP Conference at San Diego's Naval Weapons Center, the SCQAA Orange County and Inland Empire Chapters, the Southern Technology Conference (SoTeC), the ASQ San Gabriel and Temecula Chapters, the APICS San Fernando Chapter, and the University of California at Irvine. He has also presented Advanced Multitasking seminars at United Healthcare and Molina Healthcare in Long Beach.

Native American

Mike is a registered Cherokee indian and trained Native American healing practitioner. He has has over 20 years experience in Native American healing arts and facilitates monthly workgroups with his wife, Edey, to discuss traditions and teach others in these rich practices.

Business Association, University, and Corporate Affiliations

Mike has served as Chapter President of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) and Chapter President of the Program Management Institute (PMI). He also served as Director of the Unity Church of Brea and now serves on the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army Bell Shelter. And in collaboration and participation with University of California at Irvine (UCI), he manages and trains in Project Manager certification programs.

Education

Mike attended UCLA and majored in chemistry. He also obtained certificates in Small Business Administration, Satellite Technology, Proposal Writing (DoD and Commercial), and Project Management (PMP). Additionally, Mike earned a BA in Organizational Management and is currently completing a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership.
